At Gankoko, we held a session on oral care for cancer patients.

Many patients experience discomfort or changes in their mouth during cancer treatment.

This time, we welcomed Dr. Toshiyuki Kubota, an experienced dentist, who gave us a lecture on the history and practical methods of oral care.

Dr. Oshikawa’s AI mini-lecture focused on “the AI-powered personal medical record that patients should start building now.”

We had 21 participants.

Main points:

The relationship between humans and cavity-causing bacteria, such as Streptococcus mutans, changed dramatically around 8,000 years ago.

Brushing is not only about “cleaning the teeth.” Its essential purpose is to remove food debris that feeds bacteria.

For cancer survivors, oral care can affect the prognosis of the whole body.

Even if a hospital closes or medical data is lost, an AI-powered personal medical record can help patients protect themselves.

“By controlling chronic inflammation in the mouth, we can help the body’s immune system focus on fighting cancer.”
— Dr. Kubota

Our next session will take a deeper look at the scientific approach to “cancer and exercise,” with Dr. Katsunori Tsuji from the National Cancer Center, an expert in exercise oncology.
